Asked to solve problems but golf swing practice instructor... "Education on the importance of practice" absurd explanation
Elementary School Teacher in Gyeonggi Suspected of 'Golf Swing' in Classroom
No Golf Classes but Artificial Turf Mat, Golf Bag Present
Student "Sound of Golf Club Swinging... Afraid of Being Hit"
A teacher at an elementary school in Gyeonggi Province is suspected of having students solve problems during class while practicing golf swings themselves.
According to a YTN report on the 23rd, students at an elementary school in Siheung-si, Gyeonggi Province, claimed that their homeroom teacher, Mr. A, had them do group activities or problem-solving from the beginning of the semester and often practiced golf afterward.
The released video shows Mr. A, a teacher in his 50s, swinging a golf club in front of the classroom blackboard with his gaze directed downward. At the time, Mr. A was not conducting a golf class, but it was reported that an artificial turf mat, golf bag, and plastic balls were brought into the classroom.
The students expressed anxiety, saying that the sound of the golf club hitting the blackboard or lockers could be heard and that they were worried about being hit by the swing. One student said, "When I hear the sound of the golf club swinging, I get really startled and scared," adding, "The whooshing sound is scary. I feel like I might get hit."
Similar testimonies came from parents as well. One parent said, "About one or two months ago, my child casually mentioned, 'Mom, the homeroom teacher plays golf in the classroom,' and I didn't think much of it, but after seeing the video, I was very shocked," pointing out, "The children have been neglected all this time."
Mr. A initially denied the golf practice allegations but, after reviewing the evidence video, explained, "I used it two or three times as teaching material to emphasize the importance of practice." The school also stated that Mr. A's golf swings were "for educational purposes."
