Gmarket, 21 Million Sales... Delivery Boxes 500 Times the Size of Everest
Big Smile Day Sales Volume Reaches 21.35 Million
Total Cumulative Sales Volume Hits 341 Million by 11th Event
Approximately 21 million products were sold during the 'Big Smile Day' event held by Gmarket and Auction.
Gmarket and Auction announced on the 21st that a total of 21.35 million products were sold over the 12-day Big Smile Day event held from the 8th to the 19th. This averages about 1.7 million products sold per day, or 74,000 products sold every hour. The cumulative sales volume of Big Smile Day up to the 11th event is 341 million products.
Comparing the sales volume during the event period to the size of a standard delivery box (34×25×21 cm), if stacked, it would reach a height of 4.41 million meters. This is equivalent to stacking about 500 Mount Everests. In terms of area, it covers 1.785 million square meters, enough to fill 250 soccer fields. If placed in a long line, the total length would be 7,140 km, which is equivalent to traveling back and forth between Seoul and Busan nine times.
The company stated, "Our strategy to increase the perceived discount rate for customers, discover and intensively support star products from small and medium sellers, and strengthen mutual cooperation with big brand companies to showcase competitive products has proven effective." It is also analyzed that the newly applied hyper-personalization technology using AI algorithms and the automatic calculation of discounted coupon prices during this Big Smile Day improved the cumbersome shopping flow, which was a key factor.
As of midnight on the 19th, when the event ended, the top cumulative seller on Gmarket was the 'Roborock S8 Pro Ultra Robot Vacuum Cleaner.' This product achieved sales exceeding 11.4 billion KRW as a single item on both Gmarket and Auction. Other top-ranked products on Gmarket included the Ecovacs T10 Omni Robot Vacuum Cleaner (2nd), LG Whisen Objet Collection Tower Air Conditioner (3rd), iPhone 14 Pro 256GB (4th), and Galaxy S23 Ultra 512GB (5th).
New customers for Gmarket and Auction also surged. The number of customers who visited and made purchases on Gmarket and Auction for the first time during this year’s Big Smile Day increased by 17% compared to last year.
