With "Democratic Party that couldn't even cross Jo Guk, drowning in the southern sea"
Difficulty in Agreeing on National Assembly Ethics Committee Schedule
Yoon Jae-ok "Can't Help but Doubt Whether There Is Willingness to Discipline"
The People Power Party raised its voice in criticism toward the Democratic Party of Korea, saying they are "floundering in the southern sea."
On the morning of the 19th, Yoon Jae-ok, floor leader of the People Power Party, stated at a floor strategy meeting held at the National Assembly, “Democratic Party pro-Lee Jae-myung (pro-Lee Jae-myung faction) lawmakers and their staunch supporters have shifted from defending Cho Kuk to defending Namguk,” adding, “The Democratic Party, which could not even cross the threshold of Cho Kuk, is now floundering in the southern sea.”

Yoon also pointed out the failure to reach a proper agreement between the ruling and opposition parties regarding the schedule of the National Assembly’s Ethics Special Committee. He said, “The Democratic Party, pressured by revealed evidence and strong public opinion, belatedly filed a complaint against lawmaker Kim with the Ethics Committee, but it is hard not to doubt whether they truly intend to impose disciplinary action,” adding, “The People Power Party will strictly respond to prevent any stalling tactics or lenient disciplinary measures aimed at shielding Kim in the Ethics Committee, which is chaired by the Democratic Party.” The chairperson of the Ethics Committee is Democratic Party lawmaker Byun Jae-il.
In response, Lee Yang-su, the ruling party’s chief deputy floor leader and the Ethics Committee’s ruling party secretary, explained, “The Democratic Party is busy protecting their own members through disguised party withdrawal and trying to buy time by citing the National Assembly Act and related provisions,” and added, “The problem is that the Democratic Party selectively applies the National Assembly Act only when it suits them.”
He further stated, “The Democratic Party passed the Grain Management Act amendment in just 13 days and the Yellow Envelope Act on the same day they elected the committee chair, effectively nullifying the 90-day review period stipulated by the National Assembly Act for the agenda adjustment committee,” and added, “The disciplinary proposal against Kim Nam-guk submitted by the Democratic Party is so insubstantial that it raises doubts about whether they genuinely intend to discipline him.” The ruling party had proposed to the Democratic Party, through negotiations between secretaries, to skip the Ethics Review Advisory Committee and bring the expulsion motion against Kim to the plenary session. However, the Democratic Party has taken a negative stance, citing procedural requirements under the National Assembly Act.
Park Dae-chul, chairman of the Policy Committee, criticized, “The Democratic Party is denying Namguk in the midst of a stormy southern sea, which is an act of belittling the people,” and said, “They praised the Ethics Committee complaint as an order from party leader Lee Jae-myung, but it was nothing more than a ‘belated complaint show’ forced by the rising public opinion amid the tail-cutting Namguk withdrawal show.”
