Yoon to Meet Atomic Bomb-Affected Koreans in Hiroshima This Evening
Presidential Office: "Korea and Japan Will Not Close the Door to the Past"
President Yoon Suk-yeol is scheduled to meet with Korean residents affected by the atomic bombing in 1945 during the G7 Summit held in Hiroshima, Japan, from the 19th for three days and two nights.
Presidential spokesperson Lee Do-woon announced at a briefing at the Yongsan Presidential Office that President Yoon will meet with atomic bomb survivors of Korean descent in Hiroshima that afternoon.
President Yoon is the first among all past presidents to meet with Korean atomic bomb victims in Hiroshima.
The spokesperson stated, "This shows the will to improve historical issues in addition to improving Korea-Japan relations," adding, "While Korea and Japan have opened the door to the future, it means they will not close the door to the past and will continue to resolve it."

During his three-day, two-night visit to Japan, President Yoon is also scheduled to jointly pay respects with Prime Minister Kishida Fumio at the memorial for Korean atomic bomb victims in Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. This will be the first time that the leaders of Korea and Japan jointly pay respects at the memorial for Korean atomic bomb victims within the Peace Memorial Park.
