Discussion on Digital Order... Park Yoon-kyu, 2nd Vice Minister, Holds Season 2 of National Task Meeting
Park Yoon-kyu, the 2nd Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and ICT, held the "1st On-site Meeting for Digital National Tasks (Season 2)" with experts from the "Digital Society" on the 18th at the Paejae Hakdang History Museum to discuss the "new digital order" from the private sector perspective. The Digital Society is a community of experts consisting of leading scholars and top professionals from various fields such as technology, law, humanities, economics, society, and culture, who form a discourse on the new digital order. Since its establishment in October last year, it has been identifying issues in various fields across social, economic, and cultural domains in the era of digital deepening and discussing solutions.
The meeting was held with the purpose of supporting social discussions among private experts who have continuously shown interest and conducted research on the new digital order. On the 2nd, the Ministry of Science and ICT reported the "Establishment Plan for a New Digital Order" to the Cabinet meeting. The experts from the "Digital Society" who participated in the meeting freely offered diverse opinions on policy measures including the "Digital Bill of Rights" and engaged in active discussions.
The attendees shared a common recognition of the necessity of the "Digital Bill of Rights" and presented various opinions on the values, principles, and regulatory directions that should be included in the bill. They also mentioned that while aligning with global digital norm discussions such as those in the European Union (EU) and the United States, a concrete and effective approach should be taken to practically resolve the issues and disputes that citizens will actually face.
The Ministry of Science and ICT plans to steadily prepare the "Digital Bill of Rights" by September.
Vice Minister Park Yoon-kyu stated, "What is important in creating a digital order is to increase acceptance of digital deepening through sufficient social discussions and public deliberation processes," adding, "Holding the meeting at Paejae Hakdang, where various social discussions were held mainly by young people during the modernization period at the end of the Joseon Dynasty to prepare for a new era, also reflects the intention to support proactive social public deliberation on the digital order at the private sector level in the era of digital deepening."
