Gyeonggi-do to Administer 'Foot-and-Mouth Disease Vaccines' to 1.95 Million Cattle by the 20th
Gyeonggi Province is launching an emergency additional vaccination campaign as foot-and-mouth disease continues at Korean cattle farms in Cheongju and Jeungpyeong, Chungbuk.
On the 18th, Gyeonggi Province announced that it will conduct a mass foot-and-mouth disease vaccination targeting 1.95 million cloven-hoofed animals, including cattle, pigs, and goats, raised at 8,309 livestock farms within the province by the 20th.
Earlier, starting from the 10th, as foot-and-mouth disease cases occurred consecutively at Korean cattle farms in Cheongju and Jeungpyeong, Chungbuk, detailed inspections were conducted on 60 cattle farms in Gyeonggi Province visited by vehicles that had been to the affected farms.
Although all test results were negative, considering the incubation period, the province imposed a 14-day movement restriction on the 60 cattle farms.
Additionally, all livestock-related facilities in the province will undergo daily disinfection from 2 to 3 p.m. until the end of this month.
Furthermore, the province urged ▲livestock organizations and farms to refrain from events and gatherings ▲foreign workers entering the country and livestock-related personnel returning from overseas to be prohibited from entering farms for five days ▲strengthened live and post-mortem inspections at slaughterhouses and thorough disinfection inside and outside slaughterhouses.
