Im Jong-deuk Urges "Creating a Safe Korean Cyber Environment for Private and Public Sectors"
The Cyber Crisis Management Unit has been launched to establish a unified national response system against increasingly intelligent and sophisticated cyber threats.
The Presidential Office announced that on the 17th, the National Security Office and the National Intelligence Service held a plaque ceremony for the Cyber Crisis Management Unit, an organization that responds integrally to cyber crises, and officially began its operation.
The Cyber Crisis Management Unit is an organization operated under a system where the National Security Office supervises joint cyber crisis response activities conducted by experts from the National Intelligence Service, government, public, and private sectors, in accordance with the revised National Crisis Management Basic Guidelines from March.
To this end, the National Intelligence Service expanded the organization and functions of the public-private-military joint response team, which it had established and operated since January 2012, transforming it into the Cyber Crisis Management Unit, and appointed Choi Junho, Director of the Ministry of Science and ICT, as the inaugural head.
The plaque ceremony was attended by related agencies participating in the Cyber Crisis Management Unit, including the National Security Office, National Intelligence Service, Ministry of Science and ICT, Ministry of the Interior and Safety, police, Financial Services Commission, military, Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA), and Financial Security Institute.
The National Security Office and the National Intelligence Service announced on the 17th that they will hold a plaque ceremony for the "National Cyber Crisis Management Unit" at the National Cybersecurity Cooperation Center in Pangyo, Gyeonggi Province, to establish a unified response system against increasingly intelligent and advanced cyber threats, and will officially begin operating the integrated cyber crisis response organization.

Im Jongdeuk, Deputy Director of the National Security Office, said, "As expectations for the Cyber Crisis Management Unit are high, I hope that the private and public sectors will unite to passionately and competently create a safe cyber environment in the Republic of Korea." Baek Jongwook, Third Director of the National Intelligence Service, pledged, "Through the Cyber Crisis Management Unit, we will strengthen communication and cooperation with related agencies and ensure thorough national cyber threat response activities."

A National Security Office official stated, "The Cyber Crisis Management Unit includes experts from government ministries such as the National Intelligence Service, Ministry of Science and ICT, Ministry of the Interior and Safety, Ministry of Economy and Finance, Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Financial Services Commission, military, and police; public institutions such as KISA, Korea Education and Research Information Service, Korea Local Information Research & Development Institute, KEPCO KDN, Incheon International Airport Corporation, and Financial Security Institute; and private organizations such as KT, SK Shielders, and Myung Information," adding, "It is expected to become a new cooperation model between the private and public sectors by integrating the previously dispersed national cyber crisis response tasks into one."
