BC Card "Movie and Performance Sectors Sales Up 354% Compared to 3 Years Ago"
Culture, Leisure, and Shopping Increase While Education and Transportation Decrease
Sales in cultural sectors such as movies and performance venues increased by 354% compared to 2020, when they were hit hard by COVID-19, according to a recent survey.
On the 17th, BC Card's 'ABC Report' stated that last month, sales in major domestic industries rose by 1.2% compared to the previous month. This marks a consecutive two-month increase following a 9.5% rise in March.
Specifically, among seven major industries, sales in Pet/Culture (8.7%), Leisure (7.5%), Shopping (2.8%), and Medical (0.6%) increased, while sales in Education (-7.0%), Transportation (-2.4%), and Food & Beverage (0.6%) decreased.
The cultural sector, which showed the highest growth rate, saw sales increase by 24% compared to the previous month and by 47% compared to the same month last year. Notably, sales rose by 354% compared to April 2020, when the sector suffered a decline due to the impact of COVID-19.
Leisure sector sales increased by 7.5% compared to the previous month, attributed to accommodation reservation payments ahead of Parents' Day and Children's Day.
Sales in the fuel sector sharply declined by 20.5% compared to the same month last year, reflecting the significant drop in the average fuel price in April (1,640 KRW) compared to a year earlier (1,976 KRW).
Meanwhile, the education sector experienced a sales decrease for two consecutive months, reflecting the unique characteristic of prepaid expenses for academies and other institutions just before the start of the new semester (February).
