Opening of Gwanak-gu 'Nangok Smart Public Parking Lot'
Completion of a Large-Scale Public Parking Lot with 116 Parking Spaces through the Nanggok·Nanhyang Urban Regeneration New Deal Project
Expected Effects of Improving Residential Environment and Revitalizing Local Commercial Areas by Alleviating Regional Parking Shortages
Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Junhee) has established the ‘Nanggok Smart Public Parking Lot’ to resolve parking shortages in densely populated residential areas.
The district was selected for the ‘Nanggok·Nanhyang Urban Regeneration New Deal Project’ and invested a total of 25 billion KRW over five years starting in 2018, implementing nine projects aimed at revitalizing the local economy and improving the residential environment in the low-rise residential areas of Nanggok and Nanhyang.
In areas with poor residential conditions, projects such as ‘Old Housing Renovation,’ creation of the ‘Safe and Secure Village Nanggok,’ and establishment of the ‘Nanggok Regeneration Vitality Center’ have been completed. Additionally, the ‘Nanggok Neighborhood Community’ project was carried out to enhance residents’ understanding and capabilities regarding urban regeneration, and the ‘Nanggok Energy Revitalization Project’ was completed to restore the local image and establish a historical, living, and cultural hub at the foot of Gwanaksan Mountain.
In particular, the district invested 11.2 billion KRW as a key catalyst project to build the ‘Nanggok Smart Public Parking Lot,’ reflecting the strong desire of residents suffering from severe parking shortages in many low-rise residential areas.
From the initial design phase, a ‘Project Promotion Council’ was formed, consisting of district officials, resident councils, and the Urban Regeneration Field Support Center, to actively incorporate residents’ voices. The parking lot was constructed with a total floor area of 4,549㎡, providing 116 parking spaces from one basement level to five above-ground floors.
On the 15th, an opening ceremony was held with local residents, including progress reports and facility tours. After a pilot operation period, full-scale operation will begin in June.
The district has established a ‘Five-Year Comprehensive Plan for Public Parking Lot Construction’ to continuously expand public parking lots, which is the top priority for residents, increasing parking availability through new construction, expansion, and enhancement of public facilities.
Focusing on areas with low parking supply rates, the district aims to expand at least two public parking lots annually, adding a total of 15 locations and 1,349 parking spaces by 2027 to resolve the chronic shortage of parking spaces.
