Guro-gu Adds 14 More Heat Relief Centers This Summer
May 15 to October 15 Summer Comprehensive Measures Period… 14 Additional Cooling Centers Operated Compared to Last Year
‘2023 Flood and Wind Disaster Education and Field Training’ Conducted on the 12th at Mokgamgyo Bridge over Mokgamcheon Stream
Guro-gu (Mayor Moon Heon-il) announced the ‘2023 Summer Comprehensive Measures’ ahead of the summer season.
The district has designated the period from May 15 to October 15 as the summer comprehensive measures period, focusing on five key areas: ▲Flood control measures ▲Heatwave measures ▲Safety measures ▲Health measures ▲Enhancement of residents’ convenience.
First, a Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters was established, led by Mayor Moon Heon-il and composed of 13 teams, to prepare for proactive responses. In particular, collaboration with related organizations, military units, and other district offices will be strengthened, and a private cooperation system will be established to swiftly mobilize equipment, materials, and personnel in the event of a disaster.
Additionally, to minimize damage, pre-disaster education will be conducted, and step-by-step resident action guidelines will be intensively promoted.
In this regard, on the 12th, ‘2023 Flood and Wind Disaster Education and Field Training’ was held at Mokgamcheon Stream with the participation of about 100 people including Mayor Moon Heon-il, staff, the local autonomous disaster prevention group, and residents.
Last year, when heavy rain occurred, the district expanded the flood control board installation managers beyond the district’s flood control department to include local residents such as community service centers and neighborhood leaders to enable rapid installation.
Also, guide electronic display boards were installed at 24 rainwater pumping stations to provide operation status and weather information, which can be checked in real time on the district office’s website.
Efforts to prevent landslides will also be strengthened. Inspections will be conducted on three steep slopes and six landslide-prone areas, and a field prevention team will patrol and inspect these areas along with about 100 erosion control facilities. The restoration and erosion control projects for Gaeung Mountain, which suffered landslide damage last year, are planned to be completed by the end of June before the rainy season.
The number of cooling centers has increased by 14 compared to last year, totaling 255 locations, and operating hours will be extended until 9 p.m. during heatwave warnings. A total of 156 shade shelters to prepare for heatwaves, located at crosswalks and traffic islands with high pedestrian traffic, will be operated until September 30.
