Yoon Sang-hyun "Regret over Ethics Committee Decision... Should Have Left a Way Out"
Yoon Sang-hyun, a member of the People Power Party, expressed regret over the Ethics Committee's decision to suspend the party membership rights of Kim Jae-won and former Supreme Council member Tae Young-ho for 12 months and 3 months, respectively.
On the 11th, Yoon said through his social media (SNS), "While holding them accountable, I hoped that some way out would be left for the Supreme Council members, who were elected by 100% party member votes, to run in the general election."
Having also run as a candidate for party leader in the last party convention, he said, "I worked together with the two Supreme Council members for regime change in the last presidential election and as comrades working for the success of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration, I feel regret over yesterday’s Ethics Committee decision," adding, "If they choose to resign voluntarily, they can apply for nomination, but if not, they will be unable to do so."
Since former Supreme Council member Tae received a 3-month suspension of party membership rights, he can, in principle, run in next year’s general election, but Kim is currently unable to run.
Yoon said, "It is also regrettable that the party leadership failed to resolve the controversy early until the absence of the two Supreme Council members," and added, "Because of this, the party members’ criticism that only unnecessary confusion and internal wounds remain is painful."
