Yeonggwang-gun Supports Purchase Costs for Red Mold Disease Pesticides
Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do supported the purchase of fungicides for red mold disease to 81 wheat farming households covering 176 hectares to minimize damage caused by red mold disease, which significantly affects wheat quality and yield. This year, timely control measures were implemented in response to heavy rains.
According to the county on the 10th, red mold disease (Fusarium head blight) occurs when continuous warm and humid weather with more than 2-3 days of consecutive rainfall happens between the mid-to-late last month, from the time the wheat heads appear to the early milk stage when the heads mature. This causes the grains to fail to ripen and discolor, significantly reducing the harvest yield.

Especially this year, early high temperatures and frequent rainfall are expected during the grain-filling period this month, raising concerns about losses to farmers due to the decline in wheat quality, making timely disease control essential.
A farmer cultivating wheat in Beopseong-myeon said, “The Agricultural Technology Center provided on-site technical guidance during the period when red mold disease was a concern, which somewhat eased our worries,” adding, “This fungicide purchase support will greatly help reduce farm management costs.”
Ko Yoon-ja, director of the Agricultural Technology Center, stated, “Red mold disease poses a high infection risk up to one week before harvest, so it is important to apply appropriate fungicides and lower field humidity by maintaining drainage channels,” and urged, “After harvest, please focus on immediate drying and removal of infected grains.”
