Boseong-gun Successfully Hosts National Jangsa Ssireum Championship under Korea Sports Council President's Cup
Excitement Fills the Ssireum Tournament Inside and Outside the Stadium
Boseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it held the "1st Korea Sports Council President's National Jangsa Ssireum Tournament" for seven days from April 30 to May 6 at the Dahyang Gymnasium.
The "1st Korea Sports Council President's National Jangsa Ssireum Tournament" was held during the "2023 Boseong World Tea Expo" period (April 29 to May 7, 2023), hosted by the Korea Ssireum Association and organized by the Boseong-gun Sports Council and Boseong-gun Ssireum Association.
This tournament featured 932 professional ssireum wrestlers from seven weight classes across elementary, middle, high school, university, and women's divisions nationwide. The athletes represented their schools and regions, engaging in intense belt wrestling matches on the sand ring.
In the individual competition, winners were selected for each of the seven weight classes. The team competition results were as follows: ▲ Elementary division - Gyobang Elementary School, Gyeongnam ▲ Middle division - Masan Middle School, Gyeongnam ▲ High division - Gyeongnam Information High School ▲ University division - Yeungnam University ▲ Women's division - Gurye County Office, who all won the championship.
The matches were broadcast live on the MBC SPORT+ channel, and past matches can be viewed on the YouTube channel "SatbaTV."
A Boseong-gun official stated, "It is meaningful to provide various attractions to residents and tourists visiting Boseong through hosting this ssireum tournament."
Meanwhile, Boseong-gun is promoting various sports marketing efforts to become a sports mecca. During the 2022-23 winter training season, it hosted 21 teams across four sports (weightlifting, soccer, baseball, yachting), attracting a total of 6,100 participants, significantly contributing to the revitalization of the local economy.
