Pukyong National University Students Team 2 Wins Best Paper Award from the Korean Geotechnical Society
Subin Kim and Hoseok Choi, doctoral candidates in the Department of Earth Environmental System Science at the Graduate School of Pukyong National University, each received the Best Paper Award from the Korean Geotechnical Society.
They were selected as recipients of the Best Paper Award, given to a total of seven teams, at the recent Korean Geotechnical Society Spring Conference held at Sono Calm Jeju.
Doctoral candidate Subin Kim was recognized for excellence with the paper titled "Evaluation of Uranium Adsorption Characteristics of Polysulfone Adsorbent Immobilized with Bentonite and Kaolinite."
In this paper, he developed a new bead-type adsorbent by immobilizing clay onto polysulfone, making installation and retrieval easier. Additionally, he conducted laboratory experiments to elucidate the uranium adsorption characteristics and adsorption efficiency of each adsorbent under various geochemical conditions in aqueous environments.

In this paper, he conducted linear structure analysis of the surrounding area centered on the Underground Research Tunnel (KURT), as well as geological surveys inside tunnels and on the surface, confirming the cross-cutting relationships among brittle structures. He also performed high-stress analysis to study methods that could enhance the reliability of the derived deformation history.
