Doctors Also Interested in 'ChatGPT'... Positive Use as an Auxiliary Tool for Diagnosis and Prescription

Amid widespread interest in ChatGPT across various industries, attention in the medical field is also growing. The general view is that it can serve as an auxiliary tool for diagnosis and prescription.
InterMD Company, a community platform exclusively for doctors, announced the results on the 9th of a survey conducted with 1,008 physician members on the topic of 'Current Usage and Prospects of ChatGPT.'
First, 88.5% of doctors responded that they 'know about' ChatGPT. Regarding experience using ChatGPT to obtain medical information answers, 38.3% said they 'have used it,' and 71.8% reported receiving satisfactory answers.
When asked about the future use of ChatGPT in medical settings, positive opinions accounted for 56.8%, overwhelmingly surpassing 'not sure' (27.9%) and 'negative' (15.3%). The most common reason for positivity was 'reducing workload by handling repetitive tasks such as document preparation' (28.8%), followed by 'reducing clinical decision-making time by analyzing various medical data' (22.5%), and 'simplifying the treatment process' (10.5%).
On the other hand, the biggest concern was 'issues regarding responsibility for medical judgments and outcomes' (27.4%). There were also responses about reliability issues (24.4%) and difficulty in understanding the standards and grounds for medical judgments (18.5%).
Regarding the most important consideration when using ChatGPT in the medical field in the future, many opinions favored that it should only be used as an auxiliary tool for diagnosis and prescription (43.8%). Other opinions included the need for accurate medical information training (19.2%) and limiting its use to simple information organization tasks (14.8%).

Lee Young-do, CEO of InterMD, said, "Recently, discussions about AI utilization in the medical field have been active, and we were able to hear various opinions on the use, improvement, and precautions of ChatGPT in medical settings." He added, "As shown in the survey results, the current ChatGPT has significance as an 'auxiliary role' in doctors' work, and continuous efforts are needed to reduce errors."
