Broadcasting Review Committee Decides Legal Sanctions on Home Shopping for 'Profanity'
The Korea Communications Standards Commission has decided on legal sanctions against a home shopping channel that caused controversy due to inappropriate language such as profanity.
On the 8th, the Commission held a plenary meeting at the Broadcasting Hall in Mokdong, Seoul, and announced that it had decided on legal sanctions for three cases, including Hyundai Home Shopping's 'Carol Frank Luxuring Cream.' Legal sanctions such as 'caution' and 'warning' are grounds for point deductions during broadcaster license renewals and reauthorizations.
The Commission finalized a 'warning' for Hyundai Home Shopping's 'Carol Frank Luxuring Cream,' where the show host used profanity out of frustration because they could not end the broadcast early.
For CJ OnStyle's 'Dr. Jukur Ampoule,' which misled viewers by implying efficacy and effects in treating skin diseases while selling general cosmetics, and referenced a case of a comedian who committed suicide, the Commission decided on a 'caution.'
