Uiryeong-gun was named among the 16 local governments nationwide selected through two rounds of evaluation. It is the only one in the province.

The selected Uiryeong Local Food Package Development Project focuses on building a platform for the production, distribution, processing, and sales of local agricultural products by utilizing 6.6 billion KRW from the Local Extinction Response Fund to create rental smart farms for young and middle-aged people, improve smart facilities at agricultural product distribution centers, and link with the establishment of a local food start-up and employment support center. The county aims to increase sales of small business owners and SMEs by 50%, create 50 new agricultural and start-up sites, and generate more than 840 jobs.

Through this contest selection, Uiryeong-gun will build related infrastructure with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s extinction response fund, receive support from the Ministry of SMEs and Startups for start-up and related professional workforce training, management and technology development consulting for small business owners and SMEs, technology development cost support, and policy fund loans. Additionally, it will be granted preferential points during the 2024 Local Extinction Response Fund allocation.

County Governor Oh Tae-wan said, “By linking the Local Extinction Response Fund project with various support projects from the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, we have taken a step forward in revitalizing the region through high value-added agriculture and job creation for young and middle-aged returnees to farming and rural areas. Based on this, we will respond more actively to population decline and the risk of extinction and revive regional vitality.”

Uiryeong-gun plans to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Ministry of SMEs and Startups at the end of May regarding this selected project.
