The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by more than 30 people, including Jeong In-hwa, Mayor of Gwangyang, Seo Young-bae, Chairman of the Gwangyang City Council, other Gwangyang city officials, and POSCO Group executives including Vice Chairman Kim Hak-dong.
The building’s exterior and interior design reflect the ‘wave of light’ concept linked to the regional name Gwangyang (光陽), and the exterior materials will use POSMAC, POSCO’s specialized steel grade.
At the event, Vice Chairman Kim Hak-dong said, “As the world’s largest single steelworks and a center for eco-friendly mobility material production, we will properly showcase the status of Gwangyang Steelworks through the construction of Park1538 Gwangyang,” adding, “We hope for continuous interest and support for the birth of this new landmark for the local community.”
Mayor Jeong In-hwa expressed gratitude in his congratulatory speech, saying, “We thank POSCO for promoting the establishment of a new complex cultural space for the residents of Gwangyang,” and added, “We hope Park1538 Gwangyang will become an open space shared with citizens.”
The Park1538 Gwangyang promotional center will organize content following the flow of Gwangyang Steelworks’ history, present, and vision, sequentially introducing the construction period of Gwangyang Steelworks, current steelmaking processes, representative steel products by industry group, and management vision.
In particular, a space will be created to focus on eco-friendly mobility materials produced at Gwangyang Steelworks and POSCO’s eco-friendly steel brands, differentiating it as a business-specialized space.
Various attractions will also be created through media art, including an immersive video hall that enhances immersion, a mega-trend video hall with a three-sided screen for added dimensionality, and a vision video hall with a wide-screen format.
Additionally, POSCO plans to enhance the prestige of the complex cultural space by establishing an approximately 140-pyeong art gallery within the promotional center where citizens can enjoy culture and the arts.
Meanwhile, the Park1538 Gwangyang education center will house a state-of-the-art leadership center and technical education center to further enhance employees’ capabilities and nurture future talent. Smart learning spaces such as a large auditorium, video lecture room, event hall, and VR room will be introduced, along with employee rest areas including a refresh lounge, cafeteria, and caf?.
