‘False Attendance Recognition’... Private University Professor Who Manipulated Grades Fined
A private university professor who manipulated the attendance days and grades of a transfer student was sentenced to a fine.
On the 2nd, Judge Jeong Jin-woo of the Criminal Division 5 at Daegu District Court sentenced Professor A, the head of the Visual Design Department at a private university in Gyeongbuk, who was indicted for obstruction of business, to a fine of 10 million KRW. Professors B and C of the same department were fined 5 million KRW and 3 million KRW respectively, and D, a transfer student in the same department, was fined 1 million KRW.
Professor A, along with Professor B and others, was prosecuted on charges of manipulating the attendance days, grades, and graduation project evaluation documents of D, who transferred to the Visual Design Department from July 2014 to November 2015, despite D rarely attending classes.

Judge Jeong stated, "It is recognized that Professor A and others acknowledged false attendance and awarded grades to D, thereby obstructing academic processing tasks." However, the charges that Professor A conspired with part-time lecturers and that D conspired in the false attendance and grade awarding were acquitted.
