16 Award-Winning Teams Selected, Including Grand Prize and Excellence Awards
Busan City will hold the ‘Busan Geological Attractions Travel Course Contest’ from the 28th to July 31st to promote another charm of Busan and revitalize the local economy.
Anyone interested in Busan’s geological attractions can participate in this contest. Individuals or teams can submit proposals or videos for ‘geological attraction travel courses’ using public transportation, targeting 20 excellent geological sites in Busan, including the Busan National Geopark, across the 1 River, 3 Mountains, and 7 Great Regions.
The 20 sites include Nulchado, Nakdonggang Estuary, Dadaepo Beach, Molundae, Dusong Peninsula, Dudo, Amnam Park, Songdo Peninsula, Taejongdae, Jodo, Oryukdo, Igidae, Haeundae, Songjeong Pseudotachylite, Yonggungsa, Orangdae, Jangsan, Geumjeongsan, Baekyangsan, and Gusangbanryeoam.
The submission period is until 6 p.m. on July 31st. Participants should submit their works and documents via email to the Busan Sustainable Development Council and post their works on personal social media.
Submitted proposals (videos) will be judged based on publicity, originality, feasibility, interest, and completeness. Additional points will be awarded if the course involves experiencing or using Geo Partners.
The first 50 applicants will receive partial travel expenses (20,000 KRW per person, up to 2 people per team) for transportation and meals, as well as coffee coupons.
After submissions close, from August 1st to 8th, geological and tourism experts will review the entries and select 16 winning teams, including the Grand Prize (prizes worth approximately 150,000 KRW) and Excellence Prize (prizes worth approximately 100,000 KRW). The final results will be announced on August 10th on the websites of Busan City and the Busan Sustainable Development Council.
The award ceremony for the Grand Prize and Excellence Prize winners will be held on August 28th at BEXCO during the opening ceremony of the International Geological Congress (IGC) 2024 D-1 Year Anniversary, a global geoscience olympiad.
Lee Geun-hee, Director of the Environmental Policy Office of Busan City, said, “This contest will be an opportunity to widely promote the appeal of an urban geological park that boasts excellent accessibility using Busan’s urban infrastructure, natural scenery, geological heritage, and trails. We ask for the citizens’ great interest so that Busan’s geological attractions, where nature, history, and culture harmonize, can be reborn as new tourist destinations in Busan.”
