Seongnam City Conducts Safety Inspections on 756 Public Facilities
The city of Seongnam in Gyeonggi Province recently announced that it will conduct safety inspections on all 756 public facilities following the recent collapse accident of the pedestrian section of Jeongja Bridge.
The targeted facilities include ▲297 bridges ▲87 tunnels ▲347 buildings ▲1 utility tunnel ▲3 water and sewage facilities ▲21 retaining walls and cut slopes.
Seongnam City included not only the 440 facilities subject to management under the Facility Safety Act but also 316 non-subject facilities in this inspection.
The inspections will be carried out either by commissioning specialized companies or by having city officials, architects, engineers, and other private experts in related fields examine the facilities.
After confirming the overall safety of the facilities, those requiring repair or reinforcement will undergo the necessary construction promptly, and their maintenance history will be managed.
In the first and second detailed safety inspections of the Tancheon-crossing bridges conducted from April 6 to 21, 16 cantilever (single-beam) bridges with pedestrian sections rated as 'D (Poor)' or 'E (Bad)' in safety were decided to have their pedestrian sections demolished and reconstructed.
The bridges in question include Sasong, Yatap, Hatap, Bang-a, Seohyeon, Sunae, Baekhyeon, Gungnae, Geumgok, Buljeong, Dolma, Migeum, Gumi, Ori, Singi Pedestrian Bridge, and Baekgung Pedestrian Bridge.
Including Jeongja Bridge, where the accident occurred, a total of 17 bridges are currently slated for reconstruction.
