An earthquake with a magnitude of 3.5 occurred in the sea northeast of Donghae, Gangwon Province. Earthquakes have continued in Donghae for three consecutive days.
The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) reported, “At 3:55:55 PM on the 25th, an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.5 occurred 50 km northeast of Donghae City, Gangwon Province.” The epicenter was located at 37.86 degrees north latitude and 129.49 degrees east longitude, with a depth of 33 km. The KMA forecasted, “There will be no earthquake damage.”
Near Donghae, earthquakes have continued for three days, including a magnitude 1.7 earthquake on the 23rd and others on the 24th and 25th. In July and August of last year, consecutive earthquakes occurred near Seogwipo, Jeju. It is not common for earthquakes to continue in a specific area. Although the KMA stated that there would be no earthquake damage, concerns remain.
