'Asia Economy Honam·Jeje Ironman Golf Tournament' to Open in Jeju Island in July
Jeju Island Sponsorship... Challenge 200 Holes from July 5 to 7
Pro and Amateur Participants Play 3 Rounds a Day, 54 Holes Official Match
The 2023 Asia Economy Honam·Jeje Ironman Golf Tournament will be held for three days from July 5 to 7 on Jeju Island.
Sponsored by Jeju Island, this tournament is both a festival challenging participants to complete 200 holes and an official competition on the last day where professional players and amateur experts compete to determine the rankings.
The Ironman Golf Tournament, first held last year, saw 47 participants successfully complete 198 holes over three days, setting an official record with the Korea Records Institute for the 'Longest Time Golf Marathon Team Category.' During the tournament period, a total of 441 teams and about 1,700 people participated based on 18 holes, establishing it as the top golf event in Korea.
This year, buoyed by last year’s enthusiasm, the 198-hole challenge has been raised to 200 holes. On the first day, July 5, 73 holes will be played at Golfzon County Ora Golf Course; on the 6th, 54 holes at Booyoung Golf Course; and on the last day, 73 holes again at Golfzon County Ora Golf Course.
Ironman Golf challengers can freely register for anywhere from 36 to 200 holes according to their physical condition, and the event is prepared in a festival format to allow participants to enjoy golf for an extended period.
In particular, based on last year’s achievements, this tournament has been developed into an official competition, becoming the world’s first to hold three rounds of 54 holes in one day as an official event.
The official Ironman Golf competition will be held on the last day, July 7, at Golfzon County Ora’s East and West courses. Sponsored by the Jeju Golf Association, professional players and amateur experts will participate under USGA and R&A regulations, competing in stroke play to determine the winner.
Anyone with KPGA professional qualifications can apply for the professional division, and amateurs can apply for the amateur division. The professional winner will receive a large championship trophy and a prize of 5 million KRW, while the amateur winner will be awarded a large trophy and prizes worth approximately 3 million KRW.
