Moon Jae-in's 'Pyeongsan Bookstore' Signboard Ceremony on the 25th... De Facto Opening
Private plaque ceremony with residents... Official opening not yet
Plans to operate an online book club as well
Former President Moon Jae-in's privately funded 'Pyeongsan Bookstore' will effectively open on the 25th.
According to residents of Pyeongsan Village, a private signboard ceremony for Pyeongsan Bookstore will be held that afternoon. Without any separate event, neighborhood residents will gather at the bookstore to share rice cakes and refreshments to celebrate the bookstore's opening.
However, the bookstore is not yet officially open for business. The approval process for amending the corporate bylaws to add book sales as a corporate purpose has not been fully completed.
The Pyeongsan Bookstore Foundation was registered as a corporation at the Ulsan District Court Yangsan Registry Office on December 28 last year. This corporation aims to bring together book lovers to spread the culture of books, bookstores, and libraries, and to efficiently carry out projects related to culture and the arts. Literary figures such as poet Ahn Do-hyun and Do Jong-hwan, a poet-turned-politician who served as Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism during Moon’s presidency and is now a member of the National Assembly from the Democratic Party, participate as directors.
At the end of last year, former President Moon purchased a detached house next door in Pyeongsan Village, Habuk-myeon, Yangsan City, Gyeongnam, where his private residence is located, for 850 million won. It is a one-story building within the security zone of the private residence (within a 300m radius), located a 4-minute walk from the residence. The building’s use has been changed to a Type 1 Neighborhood Living Facility, allowing operation as a retail store and a caf?.
