Shinpyung "Jo Guk to Emerge as Yoon's Political Rival"
Prediction of Cho Kuk's Candidacy in Next Year's General Election
"Cho Kuk's Political Fate Depends on Supreme Court Ruling"
Attorney Shinpyeong predicted that if former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk runs in next year's general election, he will emerge as a political leader of the opposition and a rival to President Yoon Seok-yeol.
On the 23rd, Attorney Shinpyeong wrote on Facebook, "To become a major political leader in Korea, two basic requirements are necessary," adding, "First is a 'narrative of hardship' overcoming adversity, and second is the 'power to attract people.'"
He praised Cho Kuk, saying, "Among the opposition, the person who meets both requirements is former Minister Cho. He has a decent appearance, an attractive voice, and excellent eloquence."
Attorney Shinpyeong noted that Cho Kuk recently refrained from answering questions about running in next year's general election at a book launch event, saying, "It is difficult to comment." He interpreted this as, "Although it was reported that he did not give a definitive answer on whether he would run or not, this statement can be understood to mean that if the door to running in the general election opens, he will definitely open that door and firmly walk the path of candidacy."

He also predicted that Cho Kuk would be easily elected if he runs in next year's general election. Attorney Shinpyeong said, "Although Cho Kuk was recently sentenced to two years in prison in the first trial, it is highly unlikely that his candidacy will be legally blocked by the time of next year's general election, as the Supreme Court ruling will not be issued until then," adding, "Once he runs, even as an independent, his outstanding political assets will likely ensure an easy victory."
Attorney Shinpyeong stated, "There is no one in the People Power Party who can play an appropriate role as a bulwark," and predicted, "Cho Kuk will rapidly rise as President Yoon's primary political rival and emerge as the leading opposition candidate for the next presidential election." He continued, "His resentful roar tears people's hearts apart. The already divided public sentiment will find it even harder to find a path to reconciliation."

He added, "His political fate rests in the hands of the Supreme Court after the second trial," and questioned, "Will the Supreme Court willingly block the future of the most prominent opposition presidential candidate? And would doing so be justifiable in light of the theory of judicial restraint (which holds that judicial decisions should be restrained in matters of national defense, diplomacy, and other executive acts)?" He concluded, "I sincerely hope that these ominous predictions and fantasies are nothing more than a daydream on a drowsy spring day."
