First Victory in 9 Years at Nexen·Saintnine Masters
Winning on Father's Birthday, Winter Training Putting Pays Off
"A birthday gift for the victory."
There is no better move than this. This is the story of Choi Eun-woo, a 9th-year player who achieved '210 attempts, 211th success.' On the 23rd, she completed a come-from-behind victory at the Nexen·Saintnine Masters (total prize money 800 million KRW) of the Korea Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) Tour held at Gaya Country Club (Par 72, 6,818 yards) in Gimhae, Gyeongnam. She reached the top for the first time in her 211th tournament since debuting on the KLPGA Tour in 2015. The winner's prize money is 144 million KRW.

That day was the 62nd birthday of Choi Eun-woo’s father, Choi Un-cheol. Mr. Choi always accompanies his daughter by car to every tournament. Choi Eun-woo said, "Every year, this tournament coincides with my dad’s birthday. There were many times I returned to Seoul feeling down because my results were not good," adding, "Today is a joyful trip back. I will buy my father a birthday gift with the prize money," smiling brightly.
Choi Eun-woo spent her junior years in Australia, then passed through the Dream (2nd-tier) Tour before joining the KLPGA Tour in 2015. Although she had no wins until last year, she never fell outside the top 60 in the money rankings and never lost her tour card. Despite suffering nine years without a title, Choi Eun-woo never thought about quitting golf. She smiled and said, "I didn’t start golf because my parents forced me; I did it because I liked it. I enjoy playing golf."
Choi Eun-woo cited putting training, which she focused on during the winter, as the driving force behind her victory. "I was good at making par putts, but I wasn’t good at making birdie putts," she explained, "This tournament, my putting unusually obeyed me well." When asked to give advice to fellow players who have not won for a long time, she emphasized, "I also kept being patient and waiting. If you work hard, opportunities will come. Skills are all the same."

Regarding her future goals, Choi Eun-woo said, "I want to give meaning to every tournament and every shot," adding, "My goal is to play for a long time with fun. I hope to play healthily and enjoyably." She continued, "Starting with a win is a good start," and expressed her ambition, "There are many tournaments left, so I will aim for multiple wins."
