Foreign media on the 21st (local time), citing senior officials, reported that President Biden will pledge sufficient measures to emphasize his commitment to extended deterrence against North Korea's nuclear attacks at the upcoming summit next week.
The official emphasized that one of the major achievements is that many Indo-Pacific countries, including South Korea, have chosen the U.S. nuclear umbrella instead of developing their own nuclear weapons despite the severe security realities.
The official also stated that President Biden will request investment in the U.S. from the South Korean government during the summit.
Facing a re-election challenge next year, President Biden has consistently highlighted large-scale investments in the U.S. by major South Korean companies such as Samsung and Hyundai Motor as key achievements in his economic agenda.
President Biden also plans to express gratitude for President Yoon's efforts to improve South Korea-Japan relations during this summit and convey a welcoming stance if the South Korean government takes additional measures related to support for Ukraine.
Furthermore, discussions on North Korean human rights issues are expected to take place during the Korea-U.S. summit.
President Yoon will make a state visit to the U.S. from the 24th for five nights and seven days. This state visit to the U.S. is the first in 12 years since then-President Lee Myung-bak in 2011.
