Seoul and Busan 'University Consortium' Emerges... Pukyong National University and Sogang University Jointly Promote 'Semiconductor Specialized Universities'
Why did a national university and a private university, located in Busan and Seoul respectively, form a consortium?
National Pukyong National University and Sogang University are jointly promoting the attraction of a 'Semiconductor Specialized University.'
On the 20th, Jang Young-su, president of Pukyong National University, and Shim Jong-hyuk, president of Sogang University, signed a business agreement in the reception room on the 3rd floor of Sogang University's main building to expand semiconductor talent development and agreed to form a consortium to cooperate in attracting the 'Semiconductor Specialized University.'
The 'Semiconductor Specialized University' project is a talent development initiative by the Ministry of Education aimed at solving mismatches such as labor shortages in semiconductor companies. Eight institutions will be selected in metropolitan, regional, and university alliance categories, each receiving 4.5 to 8.5 billion KRW, totaling 54 billion KRW in support.
Pukyong National University and Sogang University, located in Busan and Seoul respectively, plan to form a consortium and apply under the university alliance category of this project.

View original imageIf designated as a Semiconductor Specialized University, they will receive various support for semiconductor talent development, including curriculum and equipment establishment. The final selection results are scheduled to be announced in May.
Pukyong National University has infrastructure for industry-academia cooperation with semiconductor companies, including the newly established Department of Nano Convergence Semiconductor Engineering next year, while Sogang University already has infrastructure such as the Department of System Semiconductor Engineering, an SK Hynix contracted department opened this year.
The two universities expect to create a synergy effect in semiconductor talent development through this project.
