The First Case of Oh Se-hoon's Design Innovation... Nodulsom's New Face Unveiled
Forum for Nodeul Global Art Island Design Competition on the 20th
The Seoul Metropolitan Government showcased the future vision of Nodeul Island, conceived through direct site visits by domestic and international architects to Nodeul Island and the Han River area, to the citizens.
Referring to the design proposals, the city aims to transform Nodeul Island into a landmark that enhances urban competitiveness with innovative designs, similar to the Metropol Parasol in Seville, Spain (architect J?rgen Mayer), and The Vessel in New York, USA (architect Thomas Heatherwick).

This forum was organized to share the purpose and direction of the project with citizens before establishing the design plan that will draw the new face of Nodeul Island.
The seven architects who attended the design forum were: ① Yerin Kang + SoA ② Chanjung Kim (The System Lab) ③ Eunjoong Na & Sorae Yoo (Nameless Architects) ④ Seungsu Shin (Design Group OZ) ⑤ Bjarke Ingels (BIG, Denmark) ⑥ J?rgen Mayer (J.MAYER H. und Partner, Architekten mbB, Germany) ⑦ Thomas Heatherwick (Thomas Heatherwick Studio, UK).
The architects' design proposals for Nodeul Island revealed at the forum are as follows.
Yerin Kang & SoA's 'Nodeul Aqua Palette' implemented a new open space by juxtaposing and blending natural elements existing on Nodeul Island such as water, forest and trees, and sky.
Chanjung Kim's 'Nodeul(r)ing' proposed a horizontally elongated ring-shaped building that connects the isolated Nodeul Island with the Han River, suggesting a new concept of transportation and a landmark.
Eunjoong Na & Sorae Yoo's 'Sandeul Nodeul' aimed to lead people like the wind by walking on stepping stones that carry culture and art on Nodeul Island, which is named after the 'stepping stones where herons used to roam,' allowing people to experience nature and art.
Seungsu Shin's 'Bridged Archipelago' expressed Nodeul Island as a collection of islands connected by bridges, linking the boundaries between the city and nature.
BIG's 'The Ripple' proposed covering the upper parts of the east and west buildings with canopies that generate solar energy, making them appear as one island.
J?rgen Mayer's 'Nodeul Art Island' suggested various facilities such as a water tower, skate park, and floating stage under the concept of a Nodeul Island observatory and a connecting path linking to Gangbuk.
Thomas Heatherwick's 'Soundscape' imagined a musical panorama as a floating piece of scenery over Nodeul Island, proposing a city center resting place that responds to the contours of mountains along Seoul's skyline with wave-shaped sound waves.
After this forum, Seoul plans to establish a basic plan through various expert consultations and citizen feedback on the design proposals, and then proceed with investment reviews, public property management plans, and other administrative procedures before full-scale implementation.
