Dong-A University Signs International Exchange Agreement with Japan National Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology
Dong-A University has signed an international exchange agreement with the National Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology in Japan.
At the recent signing ceremony held at Dong-A University’s Seunghak Campus, Dong-A University President Lee Hae-woo, Director of External International Affairs Park Hyun-tae, and Shimada Hiroyuki, Director of the National Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology, attended.
This agreement was made after Park Hyun-tae, a professor in the Department of Health Management at Dong-A University and head of the Digital Healthcare Research Institute, visited Japan in February to discuss international exchange and cooperation plans between the two institutions.
According to the agreement, Dong-A University will share future strategies to prepare for a super-aged society with the National Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology, focusing on the ‘Smart Healthcare Convergence Major,’ ‘LINC3.0 Biohealth ICC,’ ‘BK21 Four Future Environment Bio-defense Convergence Project Group,’ and the ‘Digital Healthcare Research Institute.’ They will also carry out research and development, joint research projects, and personnel exchanges involving students, researchers, and faculty members.

View original imageThe National Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology is one of Japan’s six national medical centers, consisting of a hospital and research institute focused on geriatric medicine, and is one of the research institutions specializing in longevity medical research in the field of geriatric medicine.
The center conducts research on elucidating and regulating aging mechanisms, clarifying the pathogenesis of geriatric diseases and developing prevention and treatment methods, developing ways to improve the lifestyle of the elderly, studying the roles of health personnel related to the elderly, developing support devices necessary for elderly living, medical care, and nursing, and researching rehabilitation medicine and policies related to the elderly.
At the signing ceremony, Dong-A University President Lee Hae-woo said, “Dong-A University, which specializes in the fields of smart healthcare and biohealth, and the National Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology, an international research institution in geriatric medicine, will cooperate mutually to solve the problems of an aging society.”
He added, “I hope that comprehensive research results will reduce social costs and that many successful research outcomes will emerge that contribute to the silver care tech industry and improve the quality of life for the public.”
Director Shimada Hiroyuki said, “Since geriatric diseases such as dementia and sarcopenia are common problems faced by humanity in aging societies, it is necessary to respond through international cooperation.”

He emphasized, “Through joint research related to the prevention of geriatric diseases and healthy longevity, we expect effective research outcomes that can create innovative research results in the digital healthcare field and contribute to a global research network, as well as sustainable mutual cooperation among industry, academia, research institutes, and hospitals.”
