The Sejong Chamber Series is Sejong Center’s representative classical music program that has highlighted meaningful chamber music programs and outstanding performers annually since 2015. This year’s theme for the Sejong Chamber Series is 'Piano Music of the Classical Era,' featuring piano works by composers Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven performed as solo recitals by different pianists.
The series opens on June 14 with pianist Lee Hyuk, who rose as a next-generation artist after winning the Long-Thibaud International Competition, performing Mozart’s piano sonatas and rondos. On June 15, Spanish pianist Mart?n Garc?a Garc?a, who won 3rd prize and the Best Performance Award for Piano Concerto at the 2021 Chopin International Piano Competition, will perform Beethoven’s bagatelles and piano sonatas, as well as Mozart’s piano sonatas. This concert is especially anticipated as Mart?n Garc?a Garc?a’s first performance in Korea.

The final concert of the series will be given by pianist Baek Hye-sun. Baek Hye-sun, a seasoned artist still actively performing worldwide, will present works by Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven.
The '2023 Sejong Chamber Series' was curated with the theme of 'Piano Music of the Classical Era' from a broader perspective beyond a single composer or performer. The Classical Era was a period marked by significant improvements in instruments, evolving from the harpsichord and fortepiano to the modern piano, during which many piano works were composed and developed.
During this period, with the establishment of the sonata form, many significant works were composed, including Haydn’s keyboard pieces, Mozart’s piano sonatas, and Beethoven’s piano sonatas, which were greatly influenced by them. This series uses this as a central focus, offering an in-depth listening experience of Classical Era piano works through diverse performances by four pianists over four days.
This concert is especially anticipated because it brings together various forms of piano works such as sonatas, fantasies, and variations, as well as works by Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven, who mutually respected and influenced each other.
