Professor Park was recognized for proving the previously unclear association between light alcohol consumption and the risk of cholangiocarcinoma. For this study, over 9.52 million Korean adults aged 20 and above were followed for 10 years, analyzing the dose-response relationship between alcohol consumption and cholangiocarcinoma risk according to individual blood glucose status.
According to her paper, light alcohol consumption increases the risk of cholangiocarcinoma in individuals with prediabetes and diabetes, whereas no association was found in those with normal blood glucose levels. These research findings were published in November last year in the Journal of Clinical Oncology, the world’s leading oncology journal published by the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). Hanmi Pharmaceutical explained that this study is the first in the world to demonstrate that the risk of cholangiocarcinoma from alcohol consumption can be influenced by an individual’s blood glucose status.
Currently, Professor Park is focusing not only on identifying risk factors that cause cancer in clinical settings at Korea University Ansan Hospital but also on developing personalized cancer prevention strategy models. Over the past three years, she has published 24 papers in domestic and international journals, with key studies focusing on the relationship between individual health status and cancer risk.
Professor Park said, "I will continue to advance my research to widely promote that cancer is a preventable disease and strive to help many people live healthier and happier lives."
