Seoul and Gyeonggi Offices of Education United in Calling for ODA Increase... Jointly Hosting Event
Joint Press Conference of Superintendents Cho Hee-yeon and Lim Tae-hee
The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education and the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education will jointly host an event to urge an increase in Official Development Assistance (ODA).
On the afternoon of the 12th, Cho Hee-yeon, Superintendent of the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, and Lim Tae-hee, Superintendent of the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, held a joint press conference at the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education to explain the purpose of the event.
This event was planned to promote the argument that Korea's ODA support should be expanded annually from the current level of 0.16% of Gross National Income to 1% within 10 years.
Accordingly, the Seoul and Gyeonggi Offices of Education and the conservative civic group 'Jonggyeongbatnara Mandulgi Gukmin Undongbonbu' (National Movement Headquarters) will jointly host a 'Citizen and Youth March to Urge an Increase in ODA' from Seoul City Hall to Seoul Station on the 20th of next month.
In addition, the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education plans to produce educational materials consisting of six sessions focused on international individual cooperation in collaboration with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and distribute them to elementary, middle, and high schools in the Seoul area.
Superintendent Cho said, "It is expected to be a good opportunity to cultivate global citizenship sensitivity by encouraging future generations of students to take an interest in global issues and the expansion of ODA," adding, "It will be a symbolic project that transcends ideological differences and the boundaries of conservative and progressive views to cooperate around global agendas."
Superintendent Lim also stated, "In this global era, I deeply sympathize with the purpose of this event to help countries in need and pursue universal human values," and added, "It is highly meaningful as it aligns with Gyeonggi education’s goal of nurturing future talents with character and competence."
