Muan-gun Supports Agricultural Electricity Fees in Fisheries Sector
Plan to Support 50% of Electricity Bill Increase for 3 Months
Muan-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim San) is promoting the ‘Agricultural Electricity Fee Support Project for the Fisheries Sector’ to alleviate the cost burden on fishery workers who are struggling due to the increase in agricultural electricity fees used in aquaculture farms and to promote management stability.
According to the county on the 11th, the agricultural electricity fee recently increased significantly from 34.2 KRW per kWh in 2021 to 46.5 KRW in October 2022, leading to increased management burdens for fishery workers.
The agricultural electricity fee support project for the fisheries sector plans to support 50% of the electricity fee increase for three months from October to December last year, and also plans to provide additional support for electricity fees from January to February 2023.
The support targets are those permitted for aquaculture (seed production) businesses using agricultural electricity, and full payment of fees during the support period is required. Muan-gun will verify the electricity usage and payment details of project participants through the Korea Electric Power Corporation Muan branch before providing the support funds.
The county expects this to help stabilize fishery management amid increased management burdens due to rising electricity fees and tax-free diesel prices for fisheries.
Governor Kim San additionally stated, “We will promote the ‘Russia-Ukraine Crisis Tax-Free Diesel Support Project for Fisheries,’ which supports part of the increased tax-free diesel costs used from last October to February, to strive for the stability of fishery households.”
