Yoon: "Refusal to Submit Union Accounting Data, Consider Legal Action" (Update)
Chief Secretary Meeting Directives... Also Mentions 2nd Battery and Semiconductor National Strategy Meeting
President Yoon Suk-yeol has issued instructions to take a tough stance against labor unions that refuse to submit accounting data.
On the morning of the 10th, at the Chief Secretary meeting held at the Yongsan Presidential Office, President Yoon stated, "Since the most important area of labor reform is the establishment of labor-management rule of law, thorough legal measures must be taken against the refusal to submit accounting data."
Earlier, the government requested labor unions to submit accounting data to strengthen transparency in union finances. In February, the government asked 334 unions and federations, including the two major labor federations, to report by the 15th whether they had fulfilled the obligation to keep and preserve financial documents. Article 14 of the Labor Union Act states that "a labor union must prepare and keep at its office a list of members, bylaws, names and addresses of officers, minutes of meetings, and books and documents related to finances within 30 days from the establishment of the union."
At that time, President Yoon also emphasized, "Transparency in union finances is the starting point of union reform." This was in response to more than half of the labor unions refusing to submit accounting books, stating, "Reform cannot be achieved without securing financial transparency."

In addition, President Yoon told his aides on the same day to "prepare a national strategy meeting to strengthen competitiveness in secondary batteries and semiconductors." At the 14th Emergency Economic and Livelihood Meeting held on the 15th of last month, President Yoon had issued instructions that "private investment in advanced industries such as semiconductors must be made swiftly, and the government must provide seamless support in R&D, manpower, and tax incentives."
