Man from China who fell asleep wearing AirPods and found them in his stomach... recovered through bowel movement
Music Sounds Heard Inside Body Confirmed by X-ray
Hospital Says "No Surgery Needed," Retrieved Through Bowel Movement
A man fell asleep wearing Apple's wireless earphones, AirPods, and accidentally swallowed one in his sleep, according to a report by Chinese media Kuaigan Shibin Video on the 7th (local time).
According to the report, a man in his 20s recently fell asleep while listening to music with Apple’s wireless earphones, AirPods. The next day, upon waking up, he realized one AirPod was missing and searched all over his room but could not find it.
He tried to find the AirPod by playing music as loudly as possible and listening for the sound. At that moment, the man felt the music echoing inside his body.
Believing he had swallowed the AirPod, he rushed to the hospital. The medical staff were initially baffled by his explanation, but an X-ray confirmed the AirPod was located inside his stomach.
The medical team said, "There is no need to undergo surgery to remove the AirPod," and advised, "Let's wait for the AirPod to pass through with the stool." Eventually, the man found the AirPod in his stool.
Cases in the U.S. of swallowing AirPods thinking they were pills
This is not the first case of finding a lost AirPod inside one’s stomach. Last year in the U.S., a woman was holding a pill in one hand and an AirPod in the other, mistakenly swallowed the AirPod thinking it was a pill.
In 2020, a child in the U.S. swallowed a gifted AirPod and received medical treatment at a hospital.
Earlier in 2019, a man in Taiwan confirmed he had lost his AirPod and used the "Find My iPhone" feature to locate the device inside his stomach. The device he passed through his stool reportedly had 41% battery remaining and was functioning normally.

There have also been cases where swallowing AirPods caused them to get stuck in the esophagus, leading to a risk of suffocation and requiring surgery, so special caution is advised.
