[Box Office] 'Suzume-ui Mundan-sok' Surpasses 4.34 Million, Tops Weekend Charts
'Rebound' Starts in 2nd Place
The Japanese animated film 'Suzume no Tojimari' added 400,000 viewers over the weekend, surpassing a cumulative audience of 4 million.
According to the Korea Film Council's integrated box office system on the 10th, 'Suzume no Tojimari' attracted 404,946 viewers over the three-day weekend (7th to 9th), securing the number one spot at the box office. Since its release on the 8th of last month, it has recorded a cumulative audience of 4,344,068.
Having held the top spot at the weekend box office for four consecutive weeks, 'Suzume no Tojimari' reached 1 million viewers on its 6th day, 2 million on its 13th day, 3 million on its 20th day, and surpassed 4 million viewers on the 7th, just 31 days after its release.
The film surpassed 'Your Name.' (2017) with 3,813,763 viewers and 'Kung Fu Panda 3' (2016) with 3,984,814 viewers, ranking 8th among domestically released animated films.
Director Makoto Shinkai plans to visit Korea again from the 27th to the 30th to fulfill his promise made upon surpassing 3 million viewers.
The basketball film 'Rebound' (directed by Jang Hang-jun), released on the 5th, opened in 2nd place with 212,786 viewers. Its cumulative audience is 290,164.
In 3rd place was 'Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves,' which attracted 48,593 viewers, bringing its cumulative audience to 267,944.
In 4th place was 'Air,' seen by 46,411 viewers, followed by 'The First Slam Dunk,' which added 31,243 viewers to take 6th place. Its cumulative audience is 4,447,452. 'Ungnami' took 7th place.
