Gwangju Seo-gu and Asian Dementia Research Foundation Join Hands for Dementia Prevention

Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kim Ikang) has joined hands with the Asian Dementia Research Foundation to prevent dementia.

On the 7th, Seo-gu announced that it signed a business agreement with the Asian Dementia Research Foundation at the Seo-gu Office Nanum Hall to develop dementia overcoming technologies and manage dementia prevention.

Through this agreement, the two organizations promised to cooperate for mutual development and efficient work performance by ▲collaborating on screening tests to identify high-risk groups for dementia ▲linking and supporting detailed examinations for those with cognitive decline based on screening results ▲conducting public interest projects and pilot services for early prediction and prevention of dementia ▲exchanging dementia-related information and supporting publicity.

In addition, to ensure smooth implementation of the agreement, a working-level council will be held to discuss various matters, and public interest projects and pilot projects for dementia prediction and prevention will be jointly carried out.

Kim Ikang, Mayor of Seo-gu, said, “Dementia is no longer a problem limited to individuals or a single family, but an issue that the local community must consider and solve together,” adding, “We will cooperate with one heart and one mind to make Seo-gu a good place to live without worries about dementia.”

Meanwhile, the Asian Dementia Research Foundation is conducting continuous follow-up investigations of dementia cohorts through free dementia screenings for elderly people aged 60 and over, currently building the largest tracking cohort in Asia.

It is also supporting validation for early prediction of dementia, dementia prevention, and drug development by utilizing its dementia bio-medical big data.
