Chinese President Xi Jinping met with French President Emmanuel Macron on the 6th and said he would "inject new momentum into the development of China-Europe relations."
According to China's state-run CCTV on the day, President Xi and President Macron began their summit meeting in the afternoon at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

View original imageIn his opening remarks, President Xi emphasized, "The President's visit to China is the first visit by a European head of state since China's foreign exchanges fully resumed and the Two Sessions (Lianghui - the National People's Congress and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference) were successfully held."
He continued, "The trade volume between China and France has achieved relatively rapid growth, and cooperation in fields such as aerospace and agricultural food has yielded significant results. The two countries are closely communicating and cooperating on agendas such as climate change, biodiversity, and African development."
President Xi also stated, "The world today is undergoing profound historical changes. China and France are permanent members of the UN Security Council and great powers with independent and autonomous traditions, as well as firm promoters of multipolarity and democratization of international relations."
During this meeting, observers speculate that President Xi and President Macron will discuss key agendas including ways to improve China-Europe relations, promote trade between China and France, and the war in Ukraine. President Macron is expected to emphasize his opposition to China supplying weapons to Russia.

Accompanying President Macron on his state visit to China were more than 50 CEOs from major French companies such as Louis Vuitton Mo?t Hennessy (LVMH) and Airbus. These companies are expected to sign large-scale contracts with the Chinese side during the visit.
