Yongin City Conducts Emergency Inspection of 827 Bridges
Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province is conducting an urgent safety inspection of 827 bridges within its jurisdiction following the collapse accident of Jeongja Bridge in Seongnam.
Yongin City announced on the 6th that from the 10th of this month to the 4th of next month, over a period of four weeks, it will focus on inspecting vulnerable sections such as expansion areas of existing bridges and pedestrian bridges extended and installed in a cantilever style. The inspection targets by district office are 517 in Cheoin-gu, 195 in Giheung-gu, and 115 in Suji-gu.
A cantilever-style pedestrian bridge refers to a bridge where one side is attached to the main bridge structure while the opposite side is suspended in the air.
For the expansion sections of existing bridges, the inspection will mainly check for separation of connection materials and concrete cracks, while for cantilever pedestrian bridges, the plan is to inspect welding parts, bolt fastening conditions, and any abnormalities in the floor panels.
Additionally, the city plans to examine all bridges within its jurisdiction for cracks, pavement conditions, exposed rebar, leakage, efflorescence, drainage conditions, and any abnormalities in safety facilities.
If any serious defects are found during the inspection process, the city will carry out repairs based on an accurate cause analysis.
A city official stated, "As citizens' anxiety increases due to the Jeongja Bridge collapse accident, we will thoroughly inspect the condition of bridges within the city to prevent safety accidents."
