Seoul Education Forum Hosts 'In the ChatGPT Era, Asking Field Teachers'
On the 6th, the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education will hold the Seoul Education Forum under the theme "Asking On-site Teachers in the ChatGPT Era" to listen to field opinions on the educational use of generative AI, share application cases, and discuss development directions.
The forum will be held simultaneously online and offline, with 200 teachers and education professionals participating on-site, and it will also be streamed live on YouTube. Any teacher wishing to participate can join through the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education's YouTube channel.
The detailed program includes △ a special lecture on "Generative AI and Future Education" by Professor Kim Suhwan of Chongshin University △ "On-site Sketch" reflecting the expectations and concerns felt by field teachers △ sharing of "Generative AI On-site Application Cases" being attempted in elementary and secondary schools △ another "On-site Sketch" covering the challenges faced by teachers with generative AI △ and a panel discussion.
Meanwhile, interest in the use of generative AI such as ChatGPT in the education sector has been increasing recently. In a survey on "Teachers' Perceptions and Usage of ChatGPT" conducted among 5,217 teachers affiliated with the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, 88.9% of respondents expressed interest in ChatGPT, and 70.1% of teachers reported having actual experience using ChatGPT.
Additionally, 90.5% of teachers responded that ChatGPT helps their role as educators. The areas where they wish to utilize it in education were administrative work processing (82.2%), teaching and learning activities (80.3%), and student evaluation (43.9%), in that order.

Cho Heeyeon, Superintendent of the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, stated, "The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education has already established a mid- to long-term plan related to AI education in 2021 and is implementing various policies to enhance not only the school environment but also teacher competencies." He added, "We expect this forum to be a great opportunity for AI education policies centered on school sites to take root."
