105 New York High School Students Visit Korea on School Trip... Largest Scale Since COVID-19
School trips to Korea by American high school students have resumed.
The Korea Tourism Organization announced on the 5th that 105 high school students from Democracy Prep Public School in New York will visit Korea for 7 nights and 8 days from the 7th to the 14th. This is the largest scale since the COVID-19 pandemic.
Democracy Prep Public School was established in 2005 to provide quality education to low-income children in Harlem, New York. Korean is adopted as a second foreign language for high school students, and Korean cultural classes such as Taekwondo and Buchaechum (fan dance) are designated as mandatory subjects.
This school trip group consists of students with excellent Korean language grades. During the trip, they will experience various K-culture activities such as making Korean food, trying on Hanbok, karaoke, and watching non-verbal performances. They will also visit the Korea Tourism Organization's 'Hiker Ground' to enjoy content like K-pop and K-dramas.
They will visit exchange schools located in Incheon, Daegu, Gyeongju, and Naju to participate in classes and travel to nearby tourist attractions with Korean students. Additionally, they will stay with homestay families to have time to deeply understand Korean family culture.
