Professor Hwang Hee-gon, currently at Hallym International Graduate School, has been appointed as the 2nd CEO of the Gyeongnam Tourism Foundation.
According to Gyeongnam Province on the 3rd, the newly appointed CEO Hwang received his appointment certificate on the same day and will lead the foundation for two years.
CEO Hwang was born in Changwon, Gyeongnam, earned a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Pusan National University, and obtained his master's and doctorate degrees in Business Administration from Seoul National University. He has served as the head of strategic planning at COEX, president of the Korea MICE Tourism Association, and president of the Korea Trade Exhibition Association.
He has continued active involvement in academia and various committees, including his work experience in the tourism and MICE sectors.
The Gyeongnam Tourism Foundation was established in May 2020 to implement tourism policies for promoting the province’s tourism industry and is now in its third year.
An official from the province stated, “The role of the CEO is more important than ever to stabilize the foundation’s organization and respond to the surge in local tourism demand following the COVID-19 crisis. The operator of the Changwon Convention Center is also set to change from COEX to the Gyeongnam Tourism Foundation in 2024.”
He added, “The new CEO has sufficient capabilities to solve various pending issues of the tourism foundation. We expect that hiring the new CEO Hwang, recognized as a top expert nationwide in exhibition, convention, and corporate management strategy fields, will give momentum to strengthening the foundation’s functions.”

New CEO Hwang said, “I am grateful for the opportunity to apply the capabilities I have built over more than 40 years in Gyeongnam, the number one tourism area in Korea. I will do my best to lead Gyeongnam tourism, which is pioneering global K-tourism.”
