President Yoon Suk-yeol attended the 100th anniversary commemorative ceremony of Daegu Seomun Market together with First Lady Kim Keon-hee.
According to the Presidential Office, on the afternoon of the 1st, President Yoon stated in his congratulatory speech at the Daegu Seomun Market 100th anniversary ceremony, "The government's duty is to make the people prosperous," adding, "It is not the vested interests obsessed with pursuing unfair rents, but the hardworking citizens who must live well."
President Yoon continued, "To achieve this, freedom, democracy, the market economy system, and the rule of law must function properly in our society."
He also emphasized, "Our constitutional spirit is alive as it is in Seomun Market, a historical site filled with the sweat and tears of Daegu citizens."
Referring to his campaign at Seomun Market during the presidential election, President Yoon said, "It reminds me once again of the original intention that 'the direction and goal of state affairs are solely for the people.'"
He added, "I feel deeply moved about why I started politics, why I became president, for whom, and for what I must work," and said, "I will run tirelessly to create 'a renewed Korea, a new nation of the people.'"
