Hyundai Engineering Breaks Ground on LG Chem Dangjin Plant
Hyundai Engineering announced on the 30th that it has commenced construction of the ‘LG Chem Dangjin Plant’ promoted by LG Chem.
At the groundbreaking ceremony held that day, Joo Young-jun, Director General of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Oh Seong-hwan, Mayor of Dangjin, Shin Hak-cheol, Vice Chairman of LG Chem, and Hong Hyun-sung, CEO of Hyundai Engineering, attended and shared an overview of the project and future plans. A safety pledge ceremony for construction safety by construction personnel was also held.
On the 30th, the groundbreaking ceremony for LG Chem Dangjin Plant was held at Seokmun National Industrial Complex in Dangjin-si, Chungnam. Attendees included Ju Young-jun, Director General of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (left, sixth), Shin Hak-cheol, Vice Chairman of LG Chem (seventh), Oh Seong-hwan, Mayor of Dangjin (eighth), and Hong Hyun-sung, CEO of Hyundai Engineering (left, tenth).

This project involves building an eco-friendly plant in the Seokmun National Industrial Complex in Dangjin-si, Chungcheongnam-do, producing aerogel and pyrolysis oil using supercritical steam from recycled plastics, with an investment of approximately 230 billion KRW.
In addition, Hyundai Engineering will also undertake the construction of UTOS (Utilities & Offsites), including essential utility production facilities for water and air, auxiliary facilities, water treatment facilities, and infrastructure facilities within the complex.
Hyundai Engineering plans to deploy its full capabilities to ensure the successful completion of the LG Chem Dangjin Plant, strengthen its partnership with the client LG Chem, and actively secure achievements in executing eco-friendly plant EPC projects.

A Hyundai Engineering official stated, “Based on close communication with LG Chem, we achieved the milestone of commencing construction within a short period after signing the EPC contract at the end of last year. We will fully mobilize our accumulated project execution know-how and technological capabilities to complete a high-quality eco-friendly plant.”
