Miryang-si Receives Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Award for Traffic Culture Index
Ranked 1st Among Cities with Under 300,000 Population, Creating Safe Traffic Environment and Improving Civic Awareness
Miryang City in Gyeongnam received the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s institutional commendation at the 2022 Traffic Culture Index Excellent and Improvement Local Governments Award Ceremony held by the Korea Transportation Safety Authority on the 30th.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Korea Transportation Safety Authority annually compare and evaluate the Traffic Culture Index among regions to improve traffic culture. In the 2022 Traffic Culture Index survey, Miryang City scored 87.15 points, ranking first among 49 cities with populations under 300,000.
The city received overall high scores in three categories: driving behavior (8 indicators including seatbelt usage rate), pedestrian behavior (3 indicators including pedestrian crosswalk signal compliance rate), and traffic safety (7 indicators including securing traffic safety expertise).
In particular, Miryang excelled compared to other local governments of similar size in areas such as drunk driving incidence, securing traffic safety expertise, and efforts to secure traffic safety budgets. Compliance rates and improvements from the previous year were also high for crosswalk stop line adherence and seatbelt usage rates.
