Suwon City Expands Customized Integrated Services for Vulnerable Children
The city of Suwon in Gyeonggi Province is seeking children eligible for the 'Dream Start' program. Dream Start is an organization that provides customized integrated services in areas such as cognition and language, emotional and behavioral development, and physical health to children under the age of 12 and their families from vulnerable households (recipients of basic livelihood security, near-poverty households, single-parent families, etc.). Established in 2009, there are currently three Dream Start centers operating in Seryu, Wuman, and Yeonghwa.
From January 25 to February 28, Suwon City sent notices and provided telephone guidance about the program to approximately 1,400 children under 12 years old from basic livelihood security, near-poverty, and single-parent families residing in Suwon.
For the 120 or so families who expressed interest in participating, child integrated case managers will visit to assess the child's developmental status and caregiving environment and conduct consultations. After the consultation, if assistance is deemed necessary, the candidates will be selected through an internal meeting.
Selected children will receive customized integrated services, and the city will assess needs quarterly to develop programs. Additionally, the city plans to continuously connect and expand local community resources.
