Less Than a Quarter Passed... 128 Mass Shootings Already in the US
13.3% Increase Compared to the Previous Year
More than 100 mass shootings have already occurred in the United States this year.
On the 27th (local time), local media including ABC News cited the Gun Violence Archive, which compiles data on mass shootings, reporting that 128 mass shooting incidents have already occurred in the U.S. this year.
This figure counts only incidents with four or more casualties, representing a 13.3% increase compared to 113 incidents during the same period last year. There were a total of 647 mass shooting incidents throughout last year.
So far this year, there have been 12 mass shootings at elementary and secondary schools. These incidents resulted in 10 deaths and 12 injuries.
Despite such news, mass shootings continue. On the morning of the same day, a person in their 20s opened fire at a private elementary school in Nashville, Tennessee, killing six people, including three elementary students and three staff members.
The suspect is a transgender woman who graduated from the school. It is known that the suspect meticulously planned the crime, including drawing maps in advance. Police are currently investigating the motive behind the crime.
Last month, a mass shooting occurred at Michigan State University in Michigan, resulting in eight people being killed or injured. All victims were students of the university. The suspect took their own life after a standoff with the police. The motive for the crime is still unknown.
