Establishment of Sejong Cultural Tourism Foundation Blocked by City Council... City Plans to Revisit in May Regular Session
The Sejong City Council has put the brakes on the amendment of the ordinance to establish the Sejong City Culture and Tourism Foundation. This is the second time the council has blocked the ordinance amendment.
On the 28th, during the ‘82nd Extraordinary Session Plenary Meeting,’ the City Council rejected the submission of the ‘Ordinance Amendment on the Establishment and Operation of the Sejong City Culture Foundation’ to the Administrative Welfare Committee.
The submission was put to a vote, but the votes were split with 13 against and 7 in favor.
The ordinance amendment is being promoted by the city to expand and reorganize the Sejong City Culture Foundation into a Culture and Tourism Foundation.
However, the City Council maintained a negative stance on the city’s ordinance amendment, citing that while 7.9 billion KRW of citizens’ tax money will be invested over the next five years in operating the Culture and Tourism Foundation, the executive branch has not specified a concrete budget execution plan.
Another reason for the divided vote (rejection) was the failure to present a vision for developing Sejong into a cultural tourism city through the establishment of the Culture and Tourism Foundation.
Earlier, the Administrative Welfare Committee of the City Council also deferred the review of the ordinance during the ‘81st Extraordinary Session’ on the 17th for the same reasons.
