Cyber financial crimes involve the use of information and communication (IT) technologies such as malicious codes and remote control to steal personal and financial information, leading to various damages such as unauthorized remittances, loans, creation of proxy accounts, and proxy phones.
Cyber sexual violence, which mainly targets socially vulnerable groups such as children and women, has seen an increase in intelligent crimes using secure messengers and overseas sites, with incidents that attract social attention every year, such as the second Nth Room case.
Cyber gambling is a representative addictive crime, where the economic losses and addiction of participants combine and sometimes lead to secondary crimes such as fraud, embezzlement, and theft.
A representative of the Provincial Police Agency said, “As the amount and damage of cybercrimes are gradually increasing due to the deepening non-face-to-face trend accelerated by the economic recession and the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the development of telecommunications and the internet, it is more important than anything else to learn preventive measures for each type of crime to prevent damage from the four major malicious cybercrimes.”
